There’s always something on at the Flats

From opening-weekend pancakes to the end-of-season chili cook-off — put these on the calendar before you pick your week.

All events are free for registered guests unless noted. Times can shift with weather — check the board at the office.

Rest of the 2026 season

  1. OCT 2026 3–18

    Elk Rut Shuttle Tours

    Wed – Sun, 5:30 pm departures · from the office

    Two weekends-plus of guided shuttles to the Metolius viewing areas at peak bugling. $12 per person, sign up at the office by noon.

  2. OCT 2026 24

    End-of-Season Chili Cook-Off

    4:00 pm · pavilion

    Lantern-lit farewell to the season. Guests compete, everyone eats, and the winner’s name goes on the ladle until May.

2027 season

  1. MAY 2027 29

    Opening Weekend Pancake Breakfast

    8:00 – 10:00 am · pavilion by the camp store

    First weekend of the 2027 season. Buttermilk pancakes on the house, river levels posted on the pavilion board.

  2. JUN 2027 12

    Kids’ Fishing Derby

    7:00 – 10:00 am · the swim hole

    Ages 4–12, free to enter. Bait, rods and a hatchery-release rainbow stock the night before. Prizes for biggest, smallest and most creative cast.

  3. JUL 2027 4

    Riverside Fourth of July

    Parade 10:00 am · fireworks 9:45 pm

    Golf carts and bikes decorate at the pavilion, parade loops the Sage Loop, and fireworks go up over the Deschutes — visible from every riverfront site.

  4. JUL 2027 24

    Campfire Concert: The Alder Creek String Band

    7:30 pm · River Loop amphitheater

    Bluegrass and old-time tunes from Bend’s own Alder Creek String Band. Bring a chair; the store sells cider and s’mores kits until 9.

  5. AUG 2027 12

    Perseid Meteor Night

    9:00 pm – midnight · Meadow Walk dark-sky field

    Volunteers from the Tumalo astronomy club set up two Dobsonian telescopes. Peak Perseid activity — expect 60+ meteors an hour after 11.

  6. SEP 2027 18

    Camp Store Harvest Fest & Pie Contest

    1:00 – 5:00 pm · camp store porch

    Pies in by 11 am, judging at 1. Local cider, a pumpkin-patch shuttle to Tumalo, and the last of the store’s huckleberry jam.
